In Tanzania, Mango is on the list of the top most consumed fruits namely Bananas, Oranges, Pineapples, Mangoes and Peas. Mango is traded and consumed as fresh or in processed form.
As of September 2020, Somango farm had about 130 Acres with over 10,000 grafted mango trees. Currently, the farm has three varieties namely Apple (20%), keitt(65%) and kent(15%).
This cultiver originated from Kenya coastline, most probably arround the Malindi area. These Mangoes vary in size from medium to large, nearly round in shape and have rich yellow/orange to red colour when wipe. Their average length is between 9.7cm to 11cm in width as listed on the below images.
The original tree was grown from the seed planted arround 1925 on the property of Mrs. Victor mell of Miami, Florida. For the following decades palmer's parentage was unknown, however a 2005 pedigree analysis estimeted palmer was a seedling of Haden. The variety was first propagated in 1945 and officially named in 1949.
The fruit is large, with especially big specimens reaching severaal pounds in wight.
This open pollinated sedling of Mulgoba originated from Homestead (Florida) and was released in 1946.
The fruit is large with an average length of 11.7cm and a width of 9.2cm; it has an average weight of 456g, So the tree is medium sized, moderetely vigorous, producing long arching branches and has a scraggy open appearance.
